Old Favorites Have Taken a Back Seat. This new and very handsome variety, is worthy of the first place in the list of pickle sorts, and second to none as a slicer. Flesh crisp and tender of excellent quality and so, very desirable for table use. We are sure our customers will like it.

Nichols’ Medium Green Cucumber

This new variety has been pronounced unequalled as a pickle sort, while it has also been greatly prized as an early market variety; for slicing for table use, it is very much liked by all who have tested it. The name, “Medium Green,” is descriptive of the size, it being longer than the White Spine, but no so ling as the Long Green. The cucumbers are very thick through, considerably thicker than the White Spine, and are full at both ends. The skin is light green in color and very smooth. The cucumbers are handsome in appearance, and of fine quality for table use. The vines are vigorous in growth and very productive. The cucumbers are generally uniform, both in size and shape. Per Pkt., 10 cts.; oz.’ 15 cts., 1/4 lb., 40 cts., lb., $1.25 ~ Ely’s Garden Manual, Vegetable Seeds with Directions for Culture ~ 1881

NEW CUCUMBER. THE NICHOLS’ MEDIUM GREEN. It has already become a standard sort wherever it has been introduced among Large Pickle Growers, Market Men, and for the family garden, besides no Seed Catalogue is complete without it. It is not a Fansy Variety, but a Real Handsome, Good Variety. It takes the first place as a PICKLER, is second to none as a SLICER, and is very good as a FORCER. It is exceedingly prolific, always growing straight and smooth, very uniform, early, in color DARK GREEN, not medium green, but medium in size. The flesh is tender and crisp, quality unequaled. As we predicted, old favorites have taken a back seat.
